In 2022, before Generation Game had a production company, a full cast, or a fifth-draft screenplay, Andy Dale commissioned Mockingbird Co' to bring the world of Just 14 to life on screen for the very first time.
The trailer was filmed under the banner of Just 14 The Movie — the project's original working title — and was built around a different script from the one that exists today. But the heart of it was the same: Birmingham, the early 1980s, football, family, and the kind of childhood that stays with you forever.
Mockingbird Co' captured the warmth, the period detail, and the unmistakable Black Country character that Andy had poured into his novel. The result was a genuine proof of concept — something tangible that showed the world exactly what kind of film this could be.
The trailer did its job. It opened doors, started conversations, and gave the project a visual identity at a time when it existed only on the page. It remains a proud part of the Generation Game story — a reminder of where this journey began and how far it has come.
Filmed by Mockingbird Co'
Mockingbird Co' are a Birmingham-based production company with a reputation for authentic, character-driven storytelling. A Note on the Script
The 2022 trailer was produced from an earlier version of the screenplay. The Generation Game script has since been developed through five full drafts, deepening the characters, sharpening the comedy, and expanding the community world of the film. The trailer captures the spirit of the project — the current screenplay delivers on its promise.
