About the Film
A feel-good British comedy about football, family, friendship — and a Christmas tracksuit that divides two brothers.
★ The Story ★
The Story
Aston Villa are on the verge of something extraordinary — a First Division title won with just 14 players across the 1980/81 season. Set in Birmingham and the Black Country in the early 80s, the Stadler family are on the verge of something altogether more complicated.
Generation Game is a warm, funny, and deeply human comedy-drama rooted in the everyday life of a multiracial Black Country neighbourhood. Three generations live in the same street — Grandad a few doors down, remembering a different world; Dad, who works the factory floor and dreams of better; and two brothers who can't agree on anything, least of all Aston Villa.
At the centre of it all is a Christmas tracksuit. Not just any tracksuit — the wrong one. Or the right one. Or someone else's one. It arrives wrapped under the tree and, in the way that only the most ordinary things can, it tears two brothers apart.
As Villa's miraculous season unfolds — match by match, week by week — the Stadler family's own drama plays out against it. Friendships are tested. Old wounds are reopened. And somewhere between the terraces and the terraced houses, three generations discover what actually holds a family together.
Funny, tender, and unmistakably Brummie — Generation Game is a love letter to a place, a time, and the people who lived it.

Film Synopsis — Just 14'Just 14'
by Andy Dale
A funny, moving and uplifting story about family, friendship, first love and finding where you belong.
Just 14 is a heartwarming, funny and deeply nostalgic coming-of-age novel that captures the joy, heartbreak and unforgettable moments of growing up in Britain during the late 1970s and early 1980s. At its centre is Jonathan, a football-mad teenager whose life is shaped by family, friendship, first love and an unexpected passion for Aston Villa, sparked by a small act of kindness from his grandfather.
Rich in humour, warmth and authentic Black Country character, Just 14 is far more than a football story. It is a celebration of childhood, community and the people who help define who we become. Through school adventures, terrace friendships, family struggles and teenage dreams, readers are transported back to a time before mobile phones and social media, when life was simpler but no less dramatic.
With memorable characters, laugh-out-loud moments and genuine emotional depth, Just 14 explores universal themes of belonging, loyalty, identity and loss. Whether you're a football fan or simply remember what it felt like to be young and full of hope, the story resonates long after the final page.
Loved by readers for its honesty, humour and heart, Just 14 is a nostalgic journey back to a Britain many will remember fondly — and a powerful reminder that the experiences of our teenage years often shape the rest of our lives.
"It's about the things that matter — family, mates, your team, and the Christmas present that starts a war."
— Andy Dale, author of 'Just 14'

★ The Setting ★
Birmingham & the Black Country
The film is set in the terraced streets of Birmingham and the Black Country — a world of factory shifts, working men's clubs, Saturday afternoons on the terraces, and Sunday dinners that go cold during the match.
It's a multiracial neighbourhood, because that's what it was. Neighbours who've known each other for years. Kids who grow up together. A community that argues, laughs, and looks out for each other — bound together by the rhythms of everyday life and the extraordinary season unfolding at Villa Park.
The 1980/81 season is the heartbeat of the film. As Villa win match after match — with the same 14 players, week after week — the city's mood lifts. And in the Stadler household, the stakes feel just as high.
